Foods We Indians don't realize that they are healthy

1. Sweet potato (சக்கரைவள்ளி கிழங்கு)
     This food is low in Sodium, and very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. 
 It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin B6 and  Potassium, 
 and a very good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Manganese

2. Moringa leaves (முருங்கை கீரை)
     Moringa has incredibly nutritious qualities—it has 3.5 times the calcium of milk and 4 times the vitamin C of oranges," says David Wolfe, author of Superfoods. A recent analysis of the leaves found that moringa contains more vitamin A than carrots, more iron than spinach, and more potassium than bananas. It also packs as much protein as milk or eggs.

3. Green pepper (capsicum)
     This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Thiamin, Niacin, Folate, Magnesium and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Potassium and Manganese.

4. Walnuts
     A one Ounce of Serving of Walnuts Provides 18g of Total fat - 2.5g of Monounsaturated fat, 13g of Polyunsaturated fat, Including 2.5 Grams of Alpha Linolenic Acid - the Plant Based Omega-3 ALA. it Also Provides 4g of Protein, 2g of Fiber and 3.721 Mmol of Antioxidants. 

5. Cantaloupe
     This food is low in Saturated Fat and Sodium, and very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Niacin, Vitamin B6 and Folate, and a very good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Potassium.

     Nutrients per one-quarter cup of regular raisins:

8. Spring onion (Scallions) (வெங்காய தாள்)

10. Beans (Limabeans,Garbanzos,Red kidney beans)
     This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein and Copper, and a very good source of Folate and Manganese.

11. Indian Mackerel (கானங்கெலுதி) , Sardines (மத்தி) , Whiting fish (கிழங்கா மீன்), Anchovies (நெத்திலி), Halibut (போத்தா) 

12. Tea is better than Coffee.
      Preferrably black tea. It contains lot of anti-oxidants.

8. Visit farmer's or Flea market
9. Cook meals eaten in childhood
10. If you miss cereal for breakfast , try it for dinner
11. Eat with left hand or chop sticks
12. New place every weekend. It could even be a new store nearby.
13. Bird watching
14. Fly fishing
15. Hiking trail or Walking side path better than treadmill
16. Feed birds or squirrels
17. Learn typing

20. Use TV remote or Mouse with left hand
21. Use feet to pick socks or shoes
22. Warm bath in the night with candles and mild music.
23. Drive with the other hand.
24. Park at different levels everyday and try to remember it.
25. Walk or tour inside the building if you are staying for lunch.
26. Paint a picture

How to withdraw your application for B2-Extension?



If circumstances turn you to return your family member back home, Its always good to withdraw rather than ignoring so that when they come back next time, they won't have problem in getting the maximum B2 duration limit in their I-94. Here are the steps.

1. Write a letter to the office to request the withdrawal.


2. State the reason for withdrawal


3. Include the receipt number

Incredible India, Enchanting Tamilnadu - Part 2

தெருவில் உள்ள குப்பை தொட்டிகளை நீக்கி விட்டு  வீதிக்கு வரும் குப்பை வண்டியில் நேரடியாக போடும் திட்டம் கொயம்பதுரில் நன்றாக வேலை செய்கிறது . இதற்கு காரணம் அங்கு வீடுகள் ஒரு மாடிக்கு மேல் கட்ட கூடாது என்னும் சட்டம் இருப்பதாலும் மக்களின் நல்ளொழுக்கமும் தான் . சென்னையில் எங்கள் புரசைவக்கம் தெருக்களில் இது நடைமுறைக்கு சாத்தியம் ஆகாத ஒரு விஷயம் ஆகி விட்டது. இதனால் தெருக்கள் முன்பை விட குப்பையாகவும் அதை காலையில் வரும் வண்டி எடுபதற்குள் பல உயிரினங்களால் (மனிதன் உட்பட) கற்பழிக்க படுகிறது.

Volkswagen vento  கார்கள் சென்னை கோவை மற்றும் பெங்களூர் நகர்களில் எங்கு சென்றாலும் பார்த்தேன்.இந்த ஜேர்மன் கார்கள் செய்கிற manufacturing plant இந்தியாவில் இருந்தாலும் எல்லா  spare parts உம் கிடைக்காத பட்சத்தில் cost of ownership அதிகரிக்கும் . இது தெரியாமல் வாங்கும் கூட்டத்துக்கு ஒரு எச்சரிக்கை!

ஷீலா மீன் குழம்பு சாப்பிட்டேன் . இது வரை நான் சாப்பிட்டதில் இது தான் பெஸ்ட்.இது அமெரிக்காவில் கிடைக்குமா என்பதற்காக அதன் ஆங்கில பெயரை google செய்து Baricuda என்று தெரிந்து கொண்டேன். அடுத்து அந்த மீனுக்கு korean  மார்கெட்டில் வலை வீசி தேடவேண்டியது  தான். மீன் பெயர்களின் ஆங்கில பெயர்களை தெரிந்து கொண்டதில் ஒரு பயன் இருந்தது . நம்ம ஊரில் கிடைக்கும் கானங்கெலுதி , மத்தி , கிழங்கா மீன், நெத்திலி ,போத்தா மீன்கள் உடம்புக்கு மிகவும் நல்லது என்றும் தெரிந்து கொண்டேன் .

 நடுவுல கொஞ்சம் ரீலை காணோம்னு "எடிட்டர்" சொல்லியிருந்தா இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் நல்லா இருத்திருக்கும்.பாட்டு இல்லைனாலும் இரண்டரை மணி நேரம் படம் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று மக்கள் நினைப்பார்கள் என்ற குறுகிய சிந்தனை கொண்ட தமிழ் திரை உலகினரே ! காசுகேற்ற பொழுதுபோக்கு "நேரம்" தேவை இல்லை "விஷயம்" தான் தேவை என்று புரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். உங்களை விட படித்தவர்கள் தான் இங்கு Majority.

Battling between BSNL and ICICI - Which one do you choose?

Can electronic clearing system be a bane for someone?

Yes it did for me when i chose to use that for my BSNL telephone bills.

BSNL had been very prompt in submitting the bills for ECS , even after I had closed their account six months back. That promptness is the greatest customer service I ever had from BSNL.

so you might be wondering and asking me why don't you stop this from your bank account? Well thats the smartest thing I thought I can do rather than dealing with BSNL.You know how a government like BSNL office works. Write a letter , get it attested with your latest bill etc. etc.

But ICICI is no greater than BSNL. They also asked me to write a letter stating the ECS mandate number and I handed them over in a sigh of relief and left the country.

Problem solved?

Never with these cracks. BSNL had been generating different ECS mandates for every month and hence ICICI had been promptly paying for me for the unused service (closed account).

Well you are out of country? It is pretty close to landing on the mars when it comes to handling these guys remotely with the so called 24 X 7 customer service.They talk in an english which is the fastest I had ever heard. Then somehow I got hold of a Branch Service Manager named THANUJA SHREE of Purasawalkam branch.

Wow! That gets the job done..Cool.

No. Never estimate a manager like that.

She promised she can stop this mess. But slipped a few more months honoring the ECS.

Once I got her over phone and spoke with all the dignity and when I threatened to pull out my money from the savings account,she finally stopped it from paying to BSNL. When i tried to recover the money which was paid to BSNL from ICICI, the email replies got hung. Damn it.

How I fixed my dropping wireless Airport connection problem in Snow Leopard

Had an experience with my MAC Book Pro where my airport connection with my home WIFI drops after few seconds. It pulled down the total internet connection of all the other connecting devices to my DLINK router. After trying out all the possible options, I figured out that it is a problem with my router DNS settings being reset. Hence i changed my Airport DNS to Google Public DNS 8.8.8.8. After this I am able to connect my Mac Book as well my other devices like Dell laptop, iPod Touch and iPhone to my Home WIFI.Hope this helps someone.
